The recorded history of Amaravati forming parts of ancient Dhanyakataka City began from the medieval time of King Asoka, the Great Maurya Emperor. The Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang had also visited Dhanyakataka in the second quarter of Seventh Century and recorded his observations on the crowded monasteries.
